ZIP Institute is proud to present the brand book for SLAMENKA, a project focused on transforming agricultural waste into a practical, sustainable alternative to plastic drinking straws.
Slamenka is built on a simple idea: turn what is usually discarded into something useful. Every year, large amounts of agricultural straw are burned or wasted, contributing to pollution and lost value. SLAMENKA gives this material a new purpose by transforming wheat stems into natural, biodegradable drinking straws designed for everyday use.
Produced through a simple and efficient process, SLAMENKA straws respect the natural properties of the material while offering a functional solution for cafés, bars, restaurants, and consumers looking to reduce plastic waste.
The lifecycle of the product continues even after use. Collected together with food waste from restaurants, markets, and stores, the used straws are delivered to local compost producers. There, they become part of organic fertilizer, some of which returns to the farmers growing grain — completing a locally managed circular system.
Through this model, SLAMENKA reduces pollution, supports local economies, and promotes regenerative agricultural practices. It demonstrates how sustainability can be practical, accessible, and seamlessly integrated into everyday habits.
SLAMENKA represents responsibility, simplicity, and design with purpose.
